Earthquake monitoring, detection, and estimation of seismic parameters within the region are made possible through a network of seismic stations. The regional facility at RIMES meets this capability through streams of seismic data from seismic stations established with support from various sources such as ESCAP, INCOIS to increase the availability of seismic observations for tsunami warnings.
Since seismic stations are usually located in remote areas, a dependable communication network is necessary to ensure accurate earthquake detection. RIMES has established multiple broadband stations using advanced satellite telemetry and cellular telemetry to the requirement of the region to transmit real-time seismic data.
These stations contribute not only to the local data center but also to the global seismic network, e.g., Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS).
