Honourable Ibrahim Mimrah, Minister of State for Meteorology, Maldives, inaugurated the High Level Dialogue and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop – Joint-initiatives of SOFF-Funded UNEP Investment Phase in the Republic of Maldives and GCF TRACT project, held on 30 March 2026, Malé, Maldives, marking an important step toward strengthening climate resilience in the country.

Mr. Hao Zhang, UN Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts between national stakeholders and international partners to advance climate services and early warning systems.

During the technical sessions, RIMES presented on Sectoral Application of Climate Data, highlighting how climate data can be transformed into actionable information to support decision-making across multiple sectors.
A key focus of the presentation was the climate services value chain for the Maldives. Through the SOFF initiative, foundational elements are being strengthened, including observation systems such as AWS and upper-air networks, forecasting capacity, and data platforms such as Climate Data Information Systems (CDIS). Building on this, the GCF TRACT project supports the next stages by enabling Decision Support Systems (DSS), generating sector-specific advisories, and translating these into actions at the community level.

Taken together, this end-to-end approach supports risk-informed decision-making across sectors such as fisheries, agriculture, ocean, disaster risk management, aviation, and urban planning.

The workshop forms part of the joint SOFF-funded UNEP Investment Phase and the GCF TRACT project, aiming to strengthen institutional coordination, align stakeholders, and advance impact-based multi-hazard early warning systems in the Maldives.

Through this engagement, RIMES continues to support the Maldives in operationalizing climate services and ensuring that data-driven insights lead to tangible actions for resilient communities.
