Integrated and customized climate services are key to mitigating disaster risks and achieving sustainable development goals through climate adaptation.
RIMES supports the Member States to generate high-resolution forecast products and builds capacities to interpret and translate forecast information into impact-based early warning action steps.
In collaboration with the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the Government of India, and the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), RIMES continues to support NMHS to provide localized and customised information in various timescales:
- severe weather and short-term weather (up to 3 days) information for contingency planning
- medium-term (5-10 days)weather information for short-term logistics planning
- seasonal climate outlook for longer-term resource planning and management
RIMES facilitates linkages for accessing vital inputs necessary for prediction and forecasting, provides training on numerical prediction, downscaling for generating tailored forecast products, supports effective interpretation and translation of forecast products into user-friendly information, and translating research products into operational applications based on societal demands.
