Asif supports RIMES research initiatives at the national and field levels and provides technical assistance in the development of tools and applications, particularly in the agriculture and livestock sectors. In Bangladesh, he is also involved in implementing, monitoring, assessing, and documenting the RIMES project activities. Asif also provides assistance to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) as needed.
ADB engaged RIMES’ Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Specialist to support the regional conference on risk-informed development using disaster risk information for resilience, particularly for the session on integrating risk information in the agriculture sector. Activities included:

The project aimed to build capacity of UNDP country personnel in South and Southeast Asian regions on managing climate risks, in support of UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery’s (BCPR) strategic objective to establish climate risk management as service line within the disaster risk reduction and recovery (DRR) sub-practice. Key activities included development of training curriculum, module, and facilitation note, and of post-training impact evaluation guide.
The training aimed to build capacity of the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology, Bhutan, on numerical weather prediction. The training included NWP model installation, customization, and product interpretation.
The project reviewed and profiled existing climate information products and services for the agriculture and food security sector in Southeast Asian countries, in support of CGIAR’s research program on climate change, agriculture and food security.
The project aimed to build capacities of NMHSs in customizing regional climate projections, capacity building of sectoral users on interpretation and application of customized projections for risk analysis, and planning departments for integrating risk-informed adaptation into development planning processes. Key activities included training on generation of downscaled climate change projections; engagement with planning departments for application; support for Monsoon Forums in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Pakistan
This program aims to evolve a systematic capacity building process for NHMSs to integrate emerging climate /weather forecasting technologies and best practices into NHMs operations.
The project aimed to strengthen community capacity to respond to rapid and slow onset climate hazards through Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) initiatives in at least 70 villages in Myanmar’s dry zone.
As a Project Officer (Communication), Fariha Ferdous Deeny is responsible for supporting RIMES projects in topographic surveys and data quality checking, geospatial analysis, regional planning, and technical documentation for relevant sectors e.g. water resources transportation etc. In Bangladesh, Deeny supports conducting research, assisting project activities at national and field levels, coordinating with partners at national down to local levels to facilitate implementation of project activities, assisting in the facilitation and management of field visits by donors and partners.
