Developing an agromet decision support system for farm advisory (2020- 2025 Back up Support)
The project aims to develop and implement a functional agromet advisory service in 2 pilot sites (Paro and Sarpang), assess the Department of Agriculture (DOA) technical capacity for agromet services, and provide training on crop modeling, decision support systems (DSS), and integration of climate information in farming system models to develop adaptive capacity to mitigate climate risks.
Activities include:
Identification of key climate/ weather information relevant to agricultural research and development in Bhutan
Training on end-to-end early warning
The project developed materials for and delivered a training program on end-to-end early warning, for Relief and Resettlement Department staff at national, regional, and township levels
Hydrological model and flood forecasting system setup in Bhutan
The project aimed to build capacity of National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology, Bhutan, on flood forecasting. It involved development and installation of hydrological model and flood forecasting system.
Amber Masud
Ms. Amber Masud joined RIMES as a Disaster Risk Management Specialist and will be leading the work in Pakistan under the USAID/UCAR funded Strengthening Last Mile Communication Project.
Mr.Raizul Ashick M.B.
As a Web Developer Specialist in Tamil Nadu, India, Raizul supports the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA). He coordinates with TNSDMA focal points and provides technical support to project activities at state and field levels. He supports the development of different modules for the TNSMART system, quality control of the system, and its integration as per the demands from the States disaster management authority. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer science from the College of Arts and Science, The New College, Chennai.
Syeda Sabrina Sultana
As technical Officer (Meteorology), Sabrina provides technical support in meteorological data analysis, integration and model/application development. She supports in running and customizing numerical weather prediction models, processing and analyzing meteorological data of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. She also assists in research, capacity building activities, documentation and periodic reporting of project implementation and evaluation.
Shalinda Fernando
As Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Specialist, Shalinda provides support to the RIMES Sri Lanka National Centre for Climate Applications (SNCCA). He coordinates with country partners and provides assistance to project activities at national and community levels. Shalinda supports the development and implementation of User-Relevant End-to-End, People-Centered Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems. He assists in project development, monitoring, evaluation and documentation. Shalinda has participated in and facilitated training and workshops on weather, water and climate risk management.
Forecast application for risk management in agriculture school in Tamil Nadu
The project established a climate risk management field school in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu State, India. It involved curriculum adaptation; training material development; 6-day training of block level agriculture officers as trainers; and training of 30 lead farmers from various blocks of the district, over one planting season. Deliverables included inception report, training modules, training report, and final report.
