RIMES and WMO cooperation focuses on capacity development of national meteorological and hydrological services for disaster risk reduction, climate action and sustainable development

The WMO Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) provides a global platform for guiding and supporting activities across the value chain for climate services. The framework enables member states to leverage international policies and actions in order to implement and collaborate on national priorities for disaster risk management and climate-resilient development.

Through cooperation on Regional Climate Outlook Forums (RCOFs) and engagement with Regional Climate Centres (RCCs), RIMES supports GFCS efforts on international climatological data and service exchange between National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, national organizations, and other stakeholders on regional and national levels

WMO RIMES Joint Strategy and Action Plan (JSAP)

The WMO-RIMES Joint Strategy and Action Plan (2030) is developed in response to Member Countries’ request for an instrument to operationalise the MOU between WMO and RIMES across Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

The centrality of the NMHSs in guiding the proactive measures and actions underpinning the interconnected frameworks of Climate Action, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a key consideration in the JSAP.

The JSAP focuses on enhancing NMHSs’ capacities to deliver the vital, integrated services needed such that the socio-economic benefits of their services across all timescales are improved, tangible and will accrue to the whole society. An Action Plan is developed as an integral part of the JSAP as a dynamic, living document, that identifies priority actions towards these objectives.
