Position Title: Hazard risk analyst - Geological Disaster

Background: The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and intergovernmental institution, owned and managed by its Member States, for the generation and application of early warning information. RIMES evolved from the efforts of countries in Africa and Asia, in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, to establish a regional early warning system within a multi-hazard framework for the generation and communication of early warning information, and capacity building for preparedness and response to trans-boundary hazards. RIMES was established on 30 April 2009 and was registered with the United Nations on 1 July 2009. RIMES operates from its regional early warning center located at the campus of the Asian Institute of Technology in Pathumthani.
Position Description: The Hazard risk analyst - Geological Disaster consulting service is to support TNSMART.
Contract Type: Full-Time Contract
Duty station: TNSDMA office at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge
Doctorate or Master’s degree in Geology, Geoinformatics, Disaster management, or a closely related field.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years experience in related fields.
Skills and abilities
Specialisation in Landslide.
Personal qualities
Excellent interpersonal skills; team-oriented work style; pleasant personality; strong desire to learn and undertake new challenges; a creative problem-solver; willingness to work hard; interest and experience in working in a multicultural environment.
Contract Duration
The contract will be for 1 year, subject to a 6-month probationary period, and annual performance review
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Hazard risk analyst - Geological Disasters will report to Head - Hydromet, with supervision of the [Project coordinator], and in coordination with others in the Team, and shall have the following specific tasks:

Create a Database of the past landslides in Nilgiris District & generate the Landslide Susceptibility Map in consultation with GSI

Preparation of land use map of Nilgiris District
-
Dynamic Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Analysis of Landslides for Nilgiris and Dindigul District
-
Preparation of Detailed Project Reports for Landslide Mitigation in Nilgiris District
-
Community Based Disaster Risk Management Plan for Nilgiris and Dindigul District in consultation with the Social Sciences Expert

Establish contact with GSI Kolkata and Director GSI Chennai for establishing Sensor based Landslide Early Warning

Analyse the Data received from National Centre for Seismology Web Portal from Seismic Observatories in Tamil Nadu and Neighbouring States

Compiling Microzonation Studies carried out in the State and communicating to the CMDA, Director of Town and Country Planning, and all the Local Bodies giving Plan approval

Building Awareness to the Public, School Students on Landslides and Earthquakes.
